Animal Allergies

Animal allergens are found in secretions such as urine, saliva and dander (dead skin cells). They can collect on surfaces such as furniture and may remain there at high levels for several months. Allergens vary from animal to animal. Contrary to popular belief, animal hair only carries allergens and is not an allergen itself, so the length and type of animal hair has no influence on the allergy risk. ‘Hypoallergenic’ pets may shed less fur, but no breed is truly hypoallergenic.
