Allergic Rhinitis and Asthma

Rhinitis is the medical term to define inflammation of the inner lining (mucosa) of the nose. Allergic rhinitis (AR) develops when the immune system recognises and overreacts to something in the environment that would not typically result in a reaction.

AR is prevalent globally. The World Health Organization estimates that AR affects 600 million people. Besides classical symptoms, AR can impact sleep quality (leading to daily fatigue), academic and/or professional performance, and the ability to concentrate.

AR may lead to more severe allergic conditions, such as asthma.
